The past few years have held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could ever have anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.
Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California - and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.
As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfil her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal.
In the riveting finale of the Unearthly series, Clara must decide her fate once and for all.

Note: My review is SPOILER FREE, in case you haven’t read the first two books in the Unearthly trilogy. But if you haven’t, I highly suggesting at least trying the first book, even if you’re not usually a fan of angel books! However, overused or cliche this sounds, Unearthly really stands out from the rest!
Book Review:
Ever since Cynthia Hand broke my heart in Hallowed, I had been highly anticipating the conclusion to the Unearthly trilogy, Boundless! Though I admit Boundless wasn’t as good as the second book, I was still hooked into the plot, and couldn’t stop reading until the very end (:
Clara’s still the lovable heroine she was in the first book. True, she’s not the strongest or smartest in all of the YA world, but she had a good head on her shoulders and was still selfless and brave in many situations. Surprisingly, Samjeeza was probably my favorite side character in the book, since you really see a softer and kinder side of him (: I also liked Jeffrey as a side character, as his relationship with Clara develops in an interesting way and has his own interesting side plot. In an interesting twist, Angela is also forced to grow as a character, and I loved that she was still supportive and quirky in her own way, but also a more mature person.
Of course, you also have Tucker and Christian! After Hallowed, I was probably 100% Team Tucker, but I admit that in here, I was more conflicted between the two. This is probably since in Boundless, you see a lot more of Christian, and he really grew on me! Through thick and thin, he was always there for Clara, even though he knew her heart still longed for Tucker. Tucker, on the other hand, was still adorable, although he definitely wasn’t as present. Eventually, after some complex relationship building, I found that Clara’s choice was a bit predictable from my point of view, although it was a satisfying and happy one for me! :D
And finally, the plot! Though I admit that it didn’t shatter my heart, it still captivated me from the first page to the last. I don’t want to give too much away, but there’s some ADORABLE moments with Christian, flying in the mountains, taking a stroll (well, maybe not a stroll) through hell, flaming swords, memories and storytelling, and an unexpected twist with Samjeeza. There’s also some plot events that I definitely didn’t expect either, to my utter fascination!
All in all, though not as good as Hallowed, along with its familiar but lovable characters, complicated love triangle, and entertaining plot, Boundless still remains one of my favorite reads of this year. Fans of the trilogy will not be disappointed! If you’re also wary of the dreaded love triangle or the classic “angel” book, I still recommend picking up this trilogy, since I believe Hand writes the love triangle and angel-fantasy parts of the book well!

Let’s Chat! Have you read or heard of this book, or the rest of the trilogy? What do you think of it? Did you like it? Also, when comparing with other angel books, like HALO, HUSH HUSH, or FALLEN, how do you think the UNEARTHLY trilogy compares? Opinions on the love triangle? Team Christian or Team Tucker? I’d love to know :D
