January 22: Top Ten Settings I'd Like To See More Of (Or At All)
1. Maybe in an underwater world? When I read Katya's World by Jonathan L. Howard, I was really fascinated by Russalka, a planet mostly filled with the ocean (:
2. Space! I actually first thought of it when I saw the little snippet on the Broke & Bookish for Top Ten Tuesday, but I've always believed the space is like the final frontier. I'd love to see more adventures there!
3. The sky, maybe? Something along the lines of the Giant's world in Jack and the Beanstalk or Castle in the Sky! I just find myself fascinated with the idea of living up in the clouds!
4. Lewis Carroll's Wonderland! I actually just read Splintered and loved A. G. Howard's world, so now I find that I'm even more curious about it. Hopefully there's more Alice retellings in the future!
5. Somewhere in oriental Asia! Admittedly, I'm Chinese, so I'm a little biased towards this setting, but whenever I hear of a book taking place in Japan, China, or Korea, I get really excited! I know Cinder by Marissa Meyer is set in futuristic Beijing, but one of the only reasons why I didn't enjoy the book as much as I could have was because there wasn't enough of the Chinese atmosphere I was used to. I also know Prophecy by Ellen Oh is set in Korea, which I'm really excited to read!
6. France! When I was looking for books to fulfill a challenge, I realized there weren't that many YA books set in France (or, at least, that I know of... I know there's Code Name Verity, Revolution, Timeless and Anna and the French Kiss to start off) Especially since France is such a gorgeous place, I'd love to read a book set there!
7. India, too! I've never been there, but I'm sure there's a TON of culture and beautiful sites there. I don't know of many books that are set there either, so I'd love suggestions if you have any!
8. Somewhere in Africa. There's a good number of books set in Africa, but I feel like there could be more, especially since the continent is such a huge and diverse place! It could also be a pretty interesting setting ^__^
9. Some world that involves a lot of fairy tales. Last year, I read a book called Blackstone and Brenwen: The Sword and the Swansong, and I loved it because of the combination of SO many fairy tales! As a huge fairy tale geek, I'd love to see more of that, if possible (:
10. A world with a lot of mythology! I know there's actually a lot of books that have Greek mythology in them, but more never hurts, as long as it's done well (one of the reasons why I didn't like The Goddess Test as much as I could have was because it didn't make sense in accordance to Greek myths). Of course, other types of mythology, like Norse (Valkyrie Rising and Starling, I think!), Egyptian (Cleopatra Rising or Rick Riordan's Kane Chronicles) or even Asian / African mythology!

What about you? Any worlds you'd love to see more of? Any suggestions that I might not know of, with these worlds or more? I'd love to know!
